Yes, this is a trend going back to the 1970’s. If you look at yearly income as a ratio to the cost of a home, or the cost of yearly groceries etc.

You will the see the trend for decades now has been yearly income failing to keep pace with the rising costs of housing and food.

If you take into account inflation, wages have stagnated since the 1970’s. That’s why me predecessors, who are retired now, could afford house, car, boat and big family at my age. I do the same job they did, but I cannot afford a house (I rent), I can barely afford a piece of s~~~ car (plastic panels instead of steel), and I certainly could never afford a family.

Generation X was the first generation that would have a markedly lower standard of living than the “Boomers.”

Millennials are now lower than the Gen. X. If the trend continues and I think it will, we will be right back into the Feudal Era.

It’s actually significantly cheaper to buy groceries and fresh ingredients. That $10 you spend on a Big mac and fries at M, Donald’s will feed a family of four twice over if you’re willing to take the 45 minutes to make your own food.
