Later this month they’re going to release one of the Resident Evil movies in 4K, and I was excited to get it, but I didn’t know until I went to Best Buy yesterday that there’s a big catch. I didn’t know you need to have a special Blu-ray player that plays in 4K; I thought all Blu-ray players play all Blu-ray movies. There’s not a big selection of 4K players (Samsung and Philips, and I prefer Sony). On top of that, I also need another TV set that’s in 4K. Too much money and technology upgrades just for the little 4K movie selection. There’s just the Resident Evil Afterlife movie for me, and again, I thought any Blu-ray player would play it.

So what I’m experiencing with 4K is the same thing with the PlayStation 4; not enough games/movies for me to make an upgrade. I’ll likely go 4K and PS4 some day, but right now there’s not enough out there for me to do it.

Bottom line is I may need a new TV soon, because it has burn ins (I leave the TV on day and night every day). I mean I bought it 8 years ago. It’s an old 720p Samsung, Plasma. So it may be time for an upgrade anyway. The one I saw is a 2160p 4K Samsung LED going for $650

On the bright side, I have $55 in Best Buy dollars when I returned a Webroot software my mom gave me for Christmas. So whatever I decide to do, I have $55 to put towards it.

I bought a 4k tv 2 years ago and i must say it is worth it! the clarity of the picture and sharpness makes every movie cool and new to watch….

Plus its a perfect gamer screen and as long as the movies you watch are in hd the tv will upscale it to 4k sony that is

Make sure it’s HDCP 2.2 compliant or it will downscale 4K to HD. Most new TVs should be ok but many on the 1st gen 4k TVs weren’t.

Also make sure you get the right sized TV for your room or you won’t see anything better than what you get with HD. Eg. A 40 inch TV has a maximum viewing distance of 6 foot in 4k.

Right now this is the one I’m looking at: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-49-class-48-5-diag–led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/5113000.p?skuId=5113000

I go too big, otherwise it won’t fit in my wood entertainment center (it has a topside). The price is right, it’s 2160p 4K, Smart, LED and it just might barely fit into where I have to place it. And it’s a lot cheaper than the 720p, Samsung plasma I bought in 2008 for $950 plus 5 years of interest.
