    Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend a 3d printer <=$2k? Something reliable and user friendly and value for money and just, well, good. I’ve done a little research but can’t see any clear winners, if anyone has one they could recommend I’d appreciate it.

What ones are you currently looking at? Cheap ones will break constantly so be sure to find plenty of reviews before deciding.

Major brands like Formlabs, makerbot, and stratasys are a good place to start.

What kind of work are you looking to do with it?

I thought what I'd do was I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes...or should I?

    Exactly 🙂

I am just wanting to use it at home, maybe make some functional prototypes of some ideas I have (small things, not car bumpers), things I can maybe make latex or fiberglass moulds off and mass produce. (Although apparently some 3d printers can even make moulds, that would be good).

Ones I have looked at have not impressed enough to stay in my brain. I’ve tried local stores, the ones they showed me seemed very cut-price and flimsy, but were only hundreds $$$, I am prepared to pay a couple $K to get a good one. I’ve also been getting emails from ‘3dsystems’ who make a buyer’s guide and such to educate myself a little.

Right on, I’ve made a vacuum form mold out of abs. Not sure the temps latex works at but mood creation is fairly easy. Do you have cad software?

Those ones for 100’s are not worth the frustration, your 1-2k price range is doable for somthing good. What you’ll be limited too is the max build size.

There are work around but takes more post process so you’ll have to think about that. The mould I made was in 6 pieces and clipped/glued together.

Check out this one, 100 times faster than normal FDM printers. They out out a video a few years ago and I’ve been following ever since. They release it but with call for pricing so figured it was going to be more than I was willing to pay. Plus the print area is super small. Cool tech though.
