200 Proofs Earth is Not a Spinning Ball

What you want to believe or not believe is ok with me.
I just think that the earth spinning as a globe around the sun 16,000 mph and traveling at 70,000 mph with the solar system toward the vega cluster is just far f~~~ing cooler.

When I am sitting on a moving train or aeroplane traveling at constant speed I feel no movement too.

The train or aeroplane moving is a lie.

Eratosthenes determined the Earth was a sphere (globe) about 2,300 years ago. He measured the angle of inclination to the sun at two different points on the surface of the earth that he knew the distance between. He then calculated the diameter to within 20% (accuracy is somewhat disputed as the length of a stade is not precisely known). Keep in mind, he didn’t even have available to him a calculator, he drew a scale triangle to perform the calculation graphically — pure geometry.

Foucoult’s pendulum is a great, empirical proof of Earth’s rotation; you see it in science museums everywhere. The coriolis effect is also a good proof, but harder to directly observe, though I’ve used many, many industrial mass flowmeters that rely upon it as the measuring principle.

The earth itself, must be spherical; proof of this occurs most nights; the moon is crescent-shaped because Earth blocks part of the light that would have otherwise hit it and reflected. If the Earth were square, the moon would have a sharp edge in at least some of its phases. It’s difficult to come up with alternative explanations to the moon’s phases.

‘I feel the Earth move, under my feet’ by Carole King, is also sufficient proof that the Earth rotates.

Perception of motion is all RELATIVE to your inertial frame. Or, putting it in King’s English, I can be traveling at 90 miles per hour in my car, and don’t spill my coffee, but to you, an observer on the side of the highway, I’m moving pretty quickly.

Regarding rail track, it is flexible and accommodates the small curvature of the earth. It is also laid in 39 ft segments with motion possible between segments. Indeed steel bridges move every time a heavy train rolls over them. Metal deflects under load.

Did you try the experiment I suggested about throwing a weight while on a skateboard to prove conservation of momentum and why rockets can develop thrust in a vacuum? If you throw a smaller object, at a much higher velocity, you’ll see a similar effect. When you fire a gun, you’ll feel recoil, for instance, as it throws you back in the opposing direction. Newton’s 3rd Law.

Interestingly, you can also simply DROP a weight from a height, to prove the earth rotates. This was proposed hundreds of years ago. It will shift East because of conservation of ANGULAR momentum. If you don’t believe in that, take a weight on a rope, swing it in a circle, then shorten the rope by letting it wrap around your finger, you’ll see it speeds up when held at the shorter radius. You don’t always need advanced math to understand the physics.
