i have a “2 year rule”.
if you haven’t used something for 2 or more years,
DISCARD.
( exception is items with emotional significance,
such as granddad’s tie pin etc..)
sell, donate or throw away.
RESULT
less clutter and a more minimalist surrounding.
CLEAN
as you go keep a damp rag with some cleaning product
eliminate dirt and dust .
PRIDE
have “pride of ownership”
treat what you own well,
it’s your’s , you earned it.
it will last much longer and be worth the effort to maintain.
ORGANIZE
get a file cabinet and create categories.
utility bills
credit cards
bank statements
each get a place..easy to find what you need,
no hunting for that birth certificate.
.
things that are alike go together.
pens pencils stationary items in one place.
no looking for a pen when you need one.
MASTERY
the result is becoming more the master of your life.
clean and organized.
.window’s and mirrors are clean.
improves your mood!
.floor is clean and uncluttered,
you do not step on a lego piece at 3 a.m.
.bills are paid early or at least on time,
you get a great credit score.
.CALENDAR is marked with important events,
you do not forget to be at that meeting .
…
so we can’t control the weather ,
but we CAN CONTROL OURSELVES and our space.
this 2 year rule has helped me in many ways,
i hope it helps you as well!
.
check expiration dates on food items you may have,
try to include them in your meals before they expire.
.
have extra candles and fuel to cook with stored,
change out water before you need it.
.
EXTERNAL CLUTTER WILL RESULT IN A CLUTTER OF THE MIND.
drawers and closets,
organize them and you will be able to focus better.
.
Take charge of your world.
this is a way to begin.
….additional strategy’s welcomed…but we CAN CONTROL OURSELVES and our space.
this 2 year rule has helped me in many ways,
i hope it helps you as well!My guiding principle is straightforward: Know your true needs from your wants and DO NOT turn your wants into needs.
WARNING: Adopting this philosophy may cause SAD (Spending Anxiety Disorder). Symptoms include: minimizing possessions, greater time from less stuff to maintain, greater contentment and peace, more money in your pocket and snail trails if any female figures out you have spare resources. It is recommended that you consult your Stealthy Sausage Fingers Who Says No to All Things Except Peace, Love and BBQ (and guitars) for further guidance.

Great advice Hit man. I would add to take pictures of all important documents- so easy nowadays with cellphone cameras- and download to flash drive that is kept in a very safe place.
