Well… I’m 34, and I’ve run lathes, mills, and universal measuring machines, repaired antique streetcars, and once even resuscitated a vapor-locked ’37 Olds.

But, yeah, most American men my age don’t work with their hands. Ever.

My machining skills and ability never went past high school level but it’s one of the most impressive talents that there is!

I’m fascinated with the guys who build model engines from scratch. I’ve seen videos of both automotive and aircraft engines…

The RR Merlin would be especially hard. It’s a narrow-V 12 cylinder with a single overhead cam per bank and four valves per cylinder. Very impressive.

There’s a very nice cast/machined model of a Big Boy at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum.
