Using this example, we are testing the ability to make a thread private (not public) for logged in members only, and the ability to restrict to certain member levels – if required.

( Please be aware, we may turn the switch on and off a few times to test it. This one will be switched to logged in members only and will ignore tiers for now. )

But if you can read this, we also would like your input if you have any opinion on whether or not you think we SHOULD be doing this already i.e making the forums private altogether and “for members only”.

It defeats much of the purpose because many members often prefer to lurk for days, weeks, and many months before joining, but we just want to know what you think about that. Any answer is acceptable of course, including strong objections. If the vote is overwhelmingly weighted either way, you will ultimately decide.

When we can confirm this thread is showing as private on its own, we will append with more thoughts on this.

Personally, I’d rather the forums be open to the public. If someone wants to talk to others privately, they can PM members or use the chatroom.

I know I wouldn’t even be here right now if I couldn’t have read the forums without logging in. This is the first forum I actually ever invested time into because of it’s open nature. It’s the only true free place to talk about things. I hated other forums simply because they were either too anal about certain topics or they restricted speech to appease SJW c~~~s.

The archives helped me reach purple pill level, but the forums are what convinced me to go my own way. I think it’s better to leave the forums open to the public.

Unfortunately, though, not even private threads would be secure, as there will always be the odd SJW who infiltrates the site and gains membership just long enough to learn the location of the meetup.

That being said, I don’t think it would hurt to have this option, provided it doesn’t become overused by the members. We still want others to be able to learn from the site and the forums.
