Somtimes uttered by women, othertimes uttered by men. For the most part, I hear it uttered by women.

This phrase has NEVER rang true with me. Of COURSE I have regrets. Its a reflection of possessing a moral compass, accountability, owning and learning from ones mistakes.

Girls ALWAYS say this s~~~. Like a vaccuous platitude to make oneself feel fine with ANYTHING theyve done.

This is one of those catch phrases most people dont give a second thought. But not only has it ALWAYS rubbed me the wrong way, its PREDOMINANTLY said by females.

Its that very same sentiment which is tantamount to “Im a free spirit”. You know that stupid girly song with the chorus that sings:

” Im like a bird. I dont know where my home is. I dont know where my soul is. I only fly AWAY”.

Hillarious.

In my mind, these are the LIES they tell thselves to assuage any sense of guilt. “No regrets”. So you have NEVER felt bad about ANYTHING youve done?

Simply amazing to me.

My rant for the night.

I also think it’s funny you mention that song quote.  I just heard that song on one of the few times I’ve listened to the FM radio recently…all I could think about was how dumb the lyrics were, as usual with pop radio.

But not because I am irresponsible and can’t own up to my mistakes. It’s because that made me who I am today. Past mistakes are the integral part of my identity. And I don’t blame myself because such practice is destructive. I made (what I thought were) the best choices I could at that place and moment in time. I made them. My choices. I would have acted differently if I could get a chance to do it again, but the me at that point in time did not have that knowledge, so I made right choices with information available at the time.

I am not sure if shallow girls have that much reasoning into it when they say “no regrets” or YOLO – both of statements I kind of agree with. I think the part that’s missing is recognition that she made a mistake and owning up to it. They don’t really mean that when they say it. What they mean is – “I am always right”

Bottom line is that two people can say the same catchphrase, but he would mean he learned from that mistake and got over it, and she would mean that she is in denial that it was a mistake. She just flushed it down the memory hole, cleaned her dirty wings, and pretended it never had happened. And if someone points it out – the answer is: No Regrets / Yolo (I do what I do and I am always right)

But maybe I got it wrong. Tell me what you think

I think you are spot on. You make excellent points that Ive considered myself. I think the contrast between when a man says “no regrets” is that a man is capable of assuming so much responsibility, that he can become SELF-LOATHING. Which is extremely unhealthy. But its easy to do, if you have an honest discussion with yourself, are accountable, and are capable of introspection. Women don’t possess any of those facilities; if they do, they never use them. When women say “no regrets” its a cheap, canned phrase – they have no regrets because they cant be bothered spending time considering if they were wrong. Your explanation for not having regrets is more thought out, recognizes that you could have been wrong, but your not going to beat yourself over the head for that. I think there is a stark contrast between the two.

I was disgusted when I saw this YOLO video

I try to live every day like if it was the last day of my life. Not because I have no long term goals or aspirations, but because it helps you to recognise the joy of living, smelling the proverbial flowers and memento mori.
Sure, YOLO mindset led me to a lot of trouble, but if I died today – I would still be happy with the way I lived my life and I wouldn’t changed a thing.
I am an adrenaline junkie, I like everything life has to offer. I’ve done all the drugs and travelled most of the continents, learned what there is to learn and try to pass as much of this spirit to my daughter as I can. I could easily write a thrilling 500 page autobiography right now, but maybe I should wait some more
