Even though my apartment is only about 50% larger than a shipping container and I could do with less space, I think a single one would be too small. I had an idea to weld two together, then put a deck on top. Because of the metal walls, it’s easy to make some handy customizations because you can just weld things directly to the walls. In California you don’t really need much of a kitchen since you can grill outside all year long.

The difference between $4200 and $1000 in rent is about $400,000 in 10 years. One guy doing it is a Facebook engineer, and while I have no idea how much that guy makes, he could do this for 10 years (probably far less) while seriously banking money, then never work again.

The bigger problem for me would be the people you’d be stuck with. These guys sound like a bunch of hippies, which would get old fast having them as neighbors.

Deal breaker for me.

I prefer living in my older model rv for over 1/2 what they are paying, for my parking space per month

But yeah, your other points are noteworthy for those that can deal with their neighbors

I was thinking, wouldn’t you make a killing by buying shipping containers and renting them from 500 instead?
I mean, how much is a shipping container anyway? 2000 dollars perhaps?

You would be making a full return of your investment in 4 months!
Hell, you could have a fleet of those in 1 year… Yeha it is scary…
