Since they’ve lowered the price, i’ve been considering it, but since most things won’t run on native resolution, I don’t see much point…

Considering that for 500 dollars more, I could get the Dell 5k Monitor that doesn’t even have a powerful computer (or any computer at all) inside of it….

I don’t think buying the Dell 5K display only for such a price is good idea at this point.

I am a huge fan of OSX. Not particularly all things Apple but I have always had a Mac. I was/am a student for life so I got myself a Macbook Pro 15” with integrated graphics card. It can run 2 additional 4k displays via thunderbolt.

Regarding iMac … If you are going to spend that much money, I would argue for adding portability. But I have very different needs.

One thing I will like to add further: If you know anyone who is a student (or even graduated recently) you may ask him/her to buy the computer for you and reimburse them afterwards. For every model its $100 off and for the higher end iMac or Macbook Pros you get $200 off with student ID.

It’s worth looking into.

It’s fantastic. And you should know I put A LOT of thought into it. A little back story so you understand….

In 16 years, I have owned more than 20 macs. I always have 2 (one mac book and a desktop at all times since 2001)….. but I don’t own them very long. I don’t think I have ever owned a mac for more than a year. I usually sell it before the 11month warranty expires… then I go out and get the NEWEST one. Yes I sell them at a loss to myself, but it keeps me using the newest fastest stuff all the time.

This is the first time I have owned a MacBook Pro for 3 years. I bought the best SSD version in June 2012 loaded with every option and by all standards it still FLIES. Even faster than this 5K iMac in video rendering tests.

I had a cinema display which would serve as the big screen for it.
So I would use it as a desktop AND a portable leaving my big screen at home.

The Cinema Display died after 4 years (I banged it around and took it to clients and other offices) and I hoped Apple would be coming out with the 5K displays in JAN 2015 so I could get a new & better display AQAP.

But they didn’t. And I couldn’t wait.
I couldn’t look at a 15 inch laptop and get s~~~ done.

So I bought the 5K iMac instead of just a screen.
BUT I also just use it like a display…… with extra storage and a backup computer built in underneath.
AND I have twice the desktop space on ONE monitor now.

Solved ALL my problems.

So I can keep this Mac / Display for YEARS and only upgrade my MacBook when the time comes.
5K will the the standard for several years. Even video hasn’t caught up to it yet.

Would recommend. (or if you’re willing to wait until November, maybe I will sell it to you for a bargoon 🙂 )

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

Are you going to pave tennis court or two with them? Are you going to put up a picture of the ground? Or maybe you want some Batman-esque cave with a huge display? Or maybe have one of those smart homes with displays everywhere?

Oh, the new resolution type displays…

We have created 5K wallpapers for our users to download – well ahead of their time – because we’re thinking forward as much as possible. It’s not just because it’s “cool” or a novelty. 2560 (2K) is plenty for almost everyone, but if it’s not created at 5K now, it can’t be “upsized” later. So we work as high as possible and bring it down for the web and mobile. Then in a few years when 5K becomes the new normal standard, we still have the original and are far from behind. That’s why it takes twice as long now (and costs more too) but it saves in the long run every time.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.
