I think this is a good move by Trump. It is only fair that a nation has sovereignty over its own subjects. This is the sort of thing Trump is really good news for. He reaches the places career politicians fear to go.

By 2034, Payroll taxes will completely make up Social Security, meaning pensioners will see a 30% drop in their social security benefits. I already know Millennial’s, that have to send their parents money every month (because their social security can’t even pay for their medicine). The boomers were the most irresponsible generation in history. It breaks my heart that there are millennial’s whom expect an inheritance. The only things they will inherit is their parents debts. The millennial’s that will see cash and property inheritances, will be the ones who need it the least, the ones who come from affluent families already, and are already in the top 5%. This inheritance won’t make much of a difference for them them. Furthermore, people start companies in their 20’s – 40’s (and even 50’s), but they don’t typically start a company at 60 (if they already haven’t). This means that the millennial’s who inherit the wealth later in life, will have already started a business at some point in their lives, if they ever were going to. They aren’t going to create more wealth for the economy with a flush of cash at 63. The level of delusion from millennial’s and society, is painful.
Yes, I’m a Millennial and can attest to the accuracy of this statement. We are a generation of debtors and renters not owners. My Boomer parents did not save enough to retire. Boomers are finding out they spent way too much money on stupid s~~~ and don’t have nearly enough money in the bank to retire. They won’t be leaving behind anything to their children except more debt. The Millennials as a generation are on schedule to be in debt for their entire lives making us all defacto “serfs” in my view. Always renting and borrowing, but never owning.

Most of the benefit we are seeing is mostly due to the high morale inspired by Trump with his actions, the end of the Korean war, the lack of a Syrian war, and lasting economic strength hasn’t yet fully established itself as it has only been close to two years. Our currency situation is still precarious now that BRICS has established it’s trade agreements in 2016 and there is a LOT of geo-political changes, but the dollar still hasn’t died yet thanks to every other country’s currency also being s~~~.

The Student loan crisis, the true unemployment rate, the social security hole that keeps widening and so much more. Trump has more or less put a big band-aid over on a wound that has resulted in internal bleeding. No one wants to admit that the U.S. is bleeding from the inside out, but the longer we avoid the issue, the worst it’s going to be when it finally catches up to us.
I’d disagree with some of those things being a problem.
Student loan “crisis” for example. The numbers are bulls~~~. You’ll always hear things like “the average student loan balance among 2018 with student debt is around 33k.” Well great…why can’t we include students with no debt? Oh yeah…because the average with plummet. It makes for far more sensationalized headlines to instead run an article about people with six figures in student debt, who are a tiny minority, who drive the average way up. What most people owe in student debt is less than the price of a new car…I don’t see how that is a life shattering amount of money…its called suck it up and get a second job for a few years to pay it off early if you got a degree in something low paying.
Social security? Easy fix. They can do nothing to it and when the money runs out just start paying out 70% of benefits or whatever incoming tax revenue can support. It might just mean some people have to get a room mate in retirement or something…but really we all know its a s~~~ty program, if you know this your entire life and still save jack s~~~ for retirement you have nobody to blame but yourself. No doubt some millennials are obviously going to be going into retirement in debt, but some boomers are too, its not like anything will change.
True unemployment rate? I don’t think the unemployment rate is a big issue right now…I think its more a matter of stagnant wages. Wage growth has been accelerating under Trump. Stagnant wages has been an issue that has taken multiple administrations to develop. I wouldn’t imagine Trump could fix it entirely in two years, but if he gets things headed in the right direction to hand off to the next guy, that is a massive win. I don’t know what you’d expect here, we aren’t all going to just get handed a 20% raise next year because wage growth has been slow for decades.
I think our next major crash is going to stem from government debt. If you look at a pie chart of government spending, every year interest on debt becomes a bigger piece of the pie. One side of the aisle wants tax cuts, the other wants spending increases, and neither seems all that interested in any significant reduction in spending. Eventually we’re going to have some heavy tax increases and spending cuts all at the same time as we have a Greece style debt meltdown, and when we do, its going to be ugly. It just sucks we could make small changes now to prevent that in the future but most people are just too short sighted to understand a little pain and sacrifice today can prevent a lot down the road.
