Topic: I'm Staying Because…
The self-delusional backtracking has already begun. The people who swore that Trump would never be their president, now waking up to the reality of it, know they can’t ACTUALLY go to Canada so they’re convincing themselves that remaining Americans is an act of political defiance.
Here’s an actual Facebook post that was forwarded to me a few minutes ago:
“I’m staying. I’m staying for my Black friends and family. I’m staying for my Latinx friends and family. I’m staying for my Queer friends and family. Im staying for my Muslim friends and family. I’m staying for my disabled friends and family. I’m staying for women. I’m staying for hope and kindness and peace. I’m staying because this is my country and it’s worth f~~~ing fighting for. I’m staying because my white maleness will be useful in the fight. I’m staying because I see how painful, violent, and terrifying this is for the many already suffering at the hands of this white supremacist nation. I’m staying to help. We’re going to fix this.”
Or, in short, “I’m staying because I’m full of s~~~, I’ve got no money and Canada doesn’t want me anyway.”
The Trump win will be used to validate a variety of different agendas. But for me, the message is that Hillary just got a lesson in what it means to be equal to men. She got to campaign like a man, give interviews and speeches like a man, and sink an enormous amount of personal time and sweat into her goals, just like a man. But equal to men means that if you want what men have, you must earn it the way men do. Earning means competing for it. And if you don’t earn it, by outcompeting all your rivals, than you get to be disposable (and disposed of) exactly the way men have always been.
Equality to men means that nothing is given to you based on your gender. You must earn it with successful competition, or be discarded.
That sounds totally harsh and brutal to all the snowflakes scurrying off to their safe spaces tonight. But to men everywhere, it sounds like every other day of our lives.
Look, it's not my fault that tornado dropped a house on your sister. Now get back on your broom and get your ass out of here... and take your monkeys with you
It seems to me that Donald Trump’s victory is like the American version of “Brexit.” Many Americans are tired of wars, foreign affairs, corporate bailouts, bad international trade deals, unemployment, bad immigration policies that let terrorists & criminals slip through the cracks of the borders, etc. Now is the time to focus on national concerns—which is something that presidents often neglect. I think this is the reason why Donald Trump won. Many presidents promise to do something about crime, unemployment, education, and infrastructure, but they focus their attention on international problems once they get elected. Perhaps Trump is a wildcard candidate that most Americans are willing to take a risk with…instead of choosing a candidate that will maintain the status quo.
The fact that he won against an opponent who had a tremendous amount of money donated to her by corporations (and also claims to be against the Supreme Courts’s Citizens United ruling), says a lot about the state of the union. People are frustrated with politics as usual and they want something different. 2017 is going to be a very interesting and entertaining year. I imagine that Donald Trump’s ego will grow exponentially once he moves into the White House. His new political “reality show” is sure to get ratings—BIGLY!
"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind. I pronounced it. The word was ‘No.’" (Atlas Shrugged)
